Through the years, romance has seen diamond rings affixed to carrier pigeons, love letters sent from the battlefields, dutifully arranged marriages of great cultural consequence and the advent of Bumble. Harry met Sally, Lady shared spaghetti with the Tramp and Meredith swiped right.
What we lack in an origin story, we have made up for in the subsequent chapters. From Kentucky to Kotor, Asheville to Ibiza and some great Delta lounges in between, we have crafted the story of us. It’s an arc we have been thrilled to share with many of you and look forward to the plot twists and character additions as we go. Can’t wait to write the next chapter with each of you in Charleston this March!
Meredith
It was 9:00 GMT in Windsor, as anchors went live and the pomp and circumstance for the royal wedding of the future Duke & Duchess of Sussex began. It was 4:02am EST in Charleston, as I peered at the man on the couch next to me trying to groggily open a bottle of champagne, while indulging me in wearing a bowtie, and gnawing on an, admittedly, stale scone. It was also then that I realized I had found my prince, too.

Post Time – Belmont Stakes. Winning a Triple Crown is an achievement few horses obtain, so as Justify approached it, Meredith and I were dutifully watching from a crowded spot on King Street. In her classic mischievous fashion, Meredith turns to me and says “if this horse wins we go on forever, if it loses, I’m walking out of this bar!” As she is a firm believer in the universe delivering her the appropriate outcomes, I took that very seriously.
In that moment, the bar disappeared, noise stopped, and all I could think was that there was no reality without her in it. I leapt up from my stool like a 6’5 jockey, pushed aside all onlookers and I CHEERED…I screamed the loudest for that damn horse for the next two and a half minutes.
Of course, Justify won and when I looked at her, amidst spilled cocktails and the celebration, I knew she knew he was going to the whole time. As my panic turned into laughter, I knew that I had just made the best bet of my life.
